The Meadows Golf Center in Margaretville, New York

About The Meadows

A Golf Course, BBQ Stop, and Catskills Tradition on Route 28

The Meadows Golf Center is a public golf course, driving range, 18-hole mini golf course, and BBQ destination in Margaretville, NY. For a lot of people, it’s the kind of place you come for one thing and end up staying for the rest of the afternoon.

Golfers come for the 9-hole course. Families come for the mini golf. Some people stop in for the range after work. A lot of people come for the barbecue and deck views and end up doing more than they planned.

If you have been looking for a place in the Catskills where golfers and non-golfers, kids, dogs, and hungry people can all find something to do, this is probably it.

How It Started

From a Driving Range to a Full Destination

The Meadows started as a driving range opened by Lou Pedulla, a local PGA professional. Landowner Stephen Meinstein later expanded the property to include 9 holes of golf.

Russel Matson and Julie Hernandez purchased the course in 2001 and reworked it into its current 1,600-yard, par 29 layout. What started as a golf property has grown into something broader: golf, mini golf, range practice, hardwood BBQ, seasonal events, and a short-term rental now in the works.

The course is still the anchor, but there is a lot more reason to come out now.

Meet the Owners

The People Behind The Meadows

Russel Matson

President and Director of Golf Operations

Russel spent decades as a computer systems analyst before doing what he had always planned and moving to the Catskills full time. He oversees the golf course and driving range, and he is also the person behind the BBQ, running the smoker, managing the kitchen, and handling the catering operation.

His other obsession is trout fishing. If he gets a break from the course and the smoker, there is a good chance he is on the East Branch.

Julie Hernandez

Vice President and Director of Retail Operations

Julie runs the clubhouse and guest experience. She and Russ have been married since 1989 and have owned The Meadows together since 2001.

If you have had a good experience at the front desk or in the pro shop, there is a strong chance Julie had something to do with it.
