Well… that didn’t take long. Rainy Wednesday afternoon. And so my assurances of “nobody gets wet” went out the window. WeatherBug stated 0% chance of rain after 5PM… argh. So I’m 0-1 on the seasonal weather forecasting.
I’m also a bit miffed… Missing scorecards means … missing standings, missing skins, so we’ll all just wait… I know things are a bit chaotic… no mail slot or red bucket waiting in the parking lot, etc… I think the red bucket should be waiting for you on the picnic table closest to the 9th green? Then when “near pin” is gathered we can pick up all of your scorecards and you won’t have to come upstairs to see our smiling faces? Any other ideas? Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Tony Tanner! Been a while since I’ve seen four entries on the near pin board… I guess the first entrant knew he wasn’t the ultimate winner with a 69′ effort but new member / leaguer Chris Smith put one inside that to 62′ 2″ … nope that didn’t hold up either as Mitch Hull managed to post his second second place effort at 22′ 3″ … Tony Tanner of the Tony and Lou “Giant Killers” stepped up and planted his mark at 12′ 4″ – good for $30 … Skins $45 pot got divided 3 ways … again Tony Tanner’s 2 putt par on #7 held up for another $15 into his pocket. The aforementioned Mitch Hull didn’t come away empty handed as his birdie putt on 1 and the lone par on #3 gave him two skins and a $30 payout.
OK got the scorecard image emailed to me. Here’s a thought… one guy ends up being scorekeeper but the other 3 guys in the foursome should make sure the card (1) checks out and (2) that it finds its way to the league admin. Here’s another thought: does anybody keep their own scorecard (in case there is a later dispute or lost card?)
Speaking of disputes… if there is one then the player in question should play TWO golf balls – one from EACH of the disputed positions. Both scores should be marked and at the conclusion of the match the rules interpreter (that’s me) will hear you out and render a decision (without appeal) as to which score to tally.
Keep in mind that the penalty drop spot for balls hit into hazards or out of bounds is measured from the imaginary point where the ball CROSSED INTO THE HAZARD / OUT OF BOUNDS and not from where the ball ultimately came to rest (if you find it)
TODAY’s GOLF ETIQUETTE HINT: … if you hit a ball onto an adjacent hole (example you hit onto the first hole from the 9th tee) then the players that are on the 1st hole should be allowed to play their shots BEFORE you walk onto THEIR hole… wait patiently in the 9th fairway until they’ve gone past you and then walk to your (very errant) tee shot. In our case both holes 1 and 9 have a common left rough so use your judgement (and maybe the “Golden Rule” (“do unto others as you’d have others do unto you”)) to determine playing order when in this shared ground (or just run to your ball and play first)
