Match 11 – top 10 Summer Day

Humidity down a bit; temperatures in the low to mid 80s; sunshine; (mostly) green grass; good company; and GOLF ! What could be any better? With only two weeks left in the initial round robin of 14 teams there weren’t too many surprises – well maybe 19 guys entering skins for a $95 pot … and NOBODY winning a skin … well that was a surprise… Maybe Ken Steinbuch sticking his tee shot on near pin hole #2 inside of 10′ AND making his birdie putt — well that would have swept the whole $95 pot today… but waahhh waahhh Ken chose not to pony up and so Christopher Stevens, like a loose slot machine, continues to pay out perhaps better than anyone… his effort on #2 is good for $19 x 2 = $38 … so Chris plays with house money for just about the rest of the season… nice! Next week near pin will be on #3… but the skins pot should be BIG… it will be next week’s take ($3 x number of players) + $57 carry over… Anybody who was NOT in this weeks game and wants to join in will pay $5 + $3 for the carry over skins = $8 … you 19 guys who played this week will pay the normal $5… it promises to be a BIG payout for skins next week… maybe the TWO guys who had birdies this week will jump in and try to snag a piece of the skins pot that should easily grow to over $100.

Don’t forget… MGC movie night Saturday July 30 7:45 PM putting contest… 8:30 PM showtime (“Caddyshack”) … 10:30 PM (“Young Frankenstein”) hot dogs, popcorn, and soft drinks served… bring your own cooler…

John / Yvan played Dan/Gary really tough for 7 holes but holes 8 and 9 gave Dan/Gary 12 of their 14 point win. John continues to post numbers playing the A slot scoring a 47 net 29 to top Dan’s somewhat off 42 net 34. Gary’s comeback from the depths of handicap heck continues – his 39 net 28 insures that his 11 handicap probably won’t be on the scorecard next week.
Zach/Justin were down a bit after losing holes 2 and 3 but then won or tied the final 6 holes and ultimately took a 20 point victory
Ken/James took whatever spark the Hull’s brought to the first tee by winning the first three holes — only Mitch’ par on the 3rd hole avoided a 24-0 sweep… Mitch and Larry fought back winning the next two holes but Ken/James put the match away over the last 4 holes winning 3 and tying 1 – welcome to 2nd place Ken/James…
“The Giant Killers” fought Skip and the Nick Malaxos Sandbagger of the Year leading candidate Bill to a 50-50 dead draw. Skip posted a fine 40 net 28 that only a couple of blemishes prevented a “round of the year” effort from being posted… Lou launched his own Nick Malaxos Sandbagger of the Year candidacy with the best net round of the week …. a 44 net 26 … no pars, 3 bogies, 6 double bogies… Congratulations Lou, you’re a 17 handicap now!
Holes 3,4,5,6 proved crucial in Dustin/Casey big win over Lenny/Peter… Casey’s hdcp strokes on 3 and 4 turned close holes into winning holes, then Dustin’s birdie on 5 offset Lenny’s par… both Dustin and Casey parred hole 6 and the die was cast and the match was won… Lenny/Peter fought back on 7,8 but Dustin/Casey swept that comeback away with a straight up 8-0 win on the 9th.
Ron/Kenny played the league leaders tough, all even after 3 holes, but dropped the next 3 holes 23-1 so their 17-7 comeback on the final 3 holes ultimately fell short. Kenny drops another stroke next week after posting a fine 45 net 31
The “Super Seniors” Brian/Harry posted fine scores net 33 and 31 respectively but both Mike and Jonathan responded in kind with net 28 / 27 sweeping all of the Match and Medal points and starting on hole 4 swept the first 6 holes of the match… this was a well played and very close match not at all reflected in the final score.
