2024 Weds Men Event 1

And we’re off ! Meadows Golf Center – for the 1st time this season – is finally cut down to a standard that ownership (that’s me) finds acceptable… hope we met or exceeded your expectations as well. It’s not 100% – There’s still plenty of work to be done on the greens.

In the meantime we kicked off our season (and of course the threat of rain was omnipresent). Our “seasoned” citizens now have the option to play from our new GOLD tees… please provide feedback as I’ll tinker with the yardage over the next few weeks then order new scorecards.

With our aging membership we find golf carts to be at a premium – “Sparky” has a brand new set of 6 x 8v Trojan batteries, I’ve yet to install a new starter-generator belt on ClubCar #12, ClubCar #66 needs its starter-generator to be rebuilt or replaced, and “Yami,” our roofed Yamaha G1, is running better (unless I let it run out of gas as I did yesterday in the rough on #9 – Sorry Kenny & Ron… my bad)

Speaking of golf carts … looks like John Frankowiak might just bring his own cart if his new 48v charger gets the job done… and “sweet Lou” Capello – well it looks like he and Tony Tanner will be riding in STYLE in Lou’s air conditioned John Deere Gator which, if I manage to put a mower into a ditch or the river, can pull me out with its winch!

On to the GOLF… first… let me apologize for not alerting the league that at least one of our teams… TEAM 11 … Mike Brayden and Joey Hall … work west of Delhi and will almost never be able to tee off before 5:15-5:30 … so keep that in mind. Are there any other teams out there that can’t make our 4:30 “Par” tee off time? LET US KNOW! ALERT! TEAM 12 … Christian Davis / Marshall Leal will tee off ~5-5:15PM … note it!

Closest to the pin was on #6… granted not the prettiest green but still… more ACES on #6 than any other… The two Mikes hit and held the green… Mike Chevy ALMOST won the pot but Mike Lor snuck his tee shot a mere 6″ closer to grab $20 with his 14’10” effort. Check out the skins report to see the four guys who divvied up $30 5 ways… Next week we’ll play into one of the largest greens on the course, #7… you gotta be in it to win it…

Co-Driver/Navigator of the JD Gator Tony Tanner played some of this best golf with 3 pars and 3 bogies to tie up with Mike Chevy but John Fronckowiak shot a net 29 to win the match for Team 2
Bill Drew’s net 30 was the difference maker in the match…
Down a point after 6 holes; a tight match that Dustin/Dan tied up with a 3.5 – 2.5 final three holes… wonder if Andrew regrets those chipping tips he gave Dan after playing hole 1?
Many might call Mike/Gary early favorites but they barely squeak by John/Chris with John besting Mike net 1 stroke and Chris Smith firing a net 27 that’s bound to bring that 18 handicap down a bit very soon…
Mitch played net -1 but narrowly lost to Lenny’s net -2… Welcome back Derrick – but Larry led the pack with a net -4 to provide the Hull’s margin of victory
Christian/Marshall were AWOL but Ryan stepped in and managed to squeak out a win in spite of Kenny Joseph’s net 29… who’s gonna be the giant killers this season?
