Men’s League Match 5 results

It was an absolutely beautiful day to play golf here in the Catskills. The course is slowly coming around – roughs mostly mowed (fairly tight), fairways OK, and even the greens are greening up after their winter of discontent.

Casey/Dustin squeak out a close win and maintain their hold on first place
Mitch/Chevy fatten up during their bye week only losing a single hole and shooting net 28/29 to move up in the standings.
Yvan/John played strong, leading in team points through 8 holes (37-27) but faded late as an 8-0 9th hole made the difference for Ken/James in a super tight 51-49 match
Justin/Zach played well (net 29/32) but the defending champs seem to be coming into form (shooting net 30/26) to take this well played match easily 69-31
Mike finally joined brother Justin on the links to take on the new giant killers. Both Kenny and Ron shot respectable net 33’s but Mike’s 2 over par 31 net 26 (which should vault him back to the top of the low handicap list) was just too much for the GK’s to overcome.
Gary seems to be slowly coming back into form; on a hot, summery day Tom got stuck with a bum golf cart and I owe him a big apology…. In the first match in my memory where opponents played each other straight up Tony pulled off a one shot victory and Lou took his match by 3 to take all 16 medal points and the match 60-40
John/Chris both played handicap busting golf (net 28/30) and didn’t lose a hole (5-0-4) but Skip can laugh all the way to the bank as his birdie on #7 earned him one of the four skins awarded this week.

Nobody won closest to the pin as all 13 participants missed the 4th green. That means there is a $26 carry over going in to this week’s game… The thirteen that played near pin for match 5 will pay $5 to play in match 6; the rest of you pay $7 to get that $26 match 5 carry over AND the match 6 pot. We’ll try again on hole #4 (but with a closer tee marker) for match 6… you gotta be in it to win it!
