Match 16 – at the top of the Home Stretch – 2 matches left!

It was an absolutely GORGEOUS afternoon and evening to play golf with ideal temperatures, sunshine, and low humidity. Things are tightening up a bit at the top with Jamie/Chris maintaining a narrow lead and Zac/Justin surging to within a few points of the leaders… third place is in flux as well as Casey posted yet another week’s best net 24… bound to drag his handicap down a couple of strokes for next week’s matches…

A thought on SKINS … the idea is that you have to post the UNIQUE BEST score on a given hole to win a skin… so just because you post a birdie doesn’t mean you’ll win a skin… somebody else in the contest can cover you… hey sometimes a par can win a skin, too… (BTW a par would have won a skin on #4 today… a par DID win a skin on #2 … and a birdie on #8 got covered ) … so no whining! Yes there’s a little bit of luck involved when it comes to skins… Ahhh but near pin… skill, baby… skill. Speaking of which I guess Justin Callahan aka “Chipper” didn’t need a wedge to hole out on #7 this week… he put his tee shot to 16’8″ to grab a cool $30 so guess he’s playing with house money for the rest of the season. Next week we’ll play on the toughest little par 3 in the Catskills… Little River… #8… you can reach it… but can you make it stick?

Hey just a reminder that at The Meadows Golf Center in league matches we play GOLF … that means we don’t play winter rules in August, September, or any other month… we post honest scores by playing it as it lies – within the rules of golf… fluffing is for porn actors right before they shoot a scene… not real golfers. You can improve your lie after any shot on the course… it’s called an “unplayable lie”… pick your ball up and drop from knee height within two club lengths no closer to the hole is one option (and don’t forget to add that penalty stroke)… otherwise please stop – or just tee your ball up … yeah… on a tee! If you’re going to cheat, cheat all the way.

John/Yvan squeak out an extraordinarily close win – the points won on the 2nd hole (7-1) , and their Match Points (8-4) just barely offset the 12-4 loss in Medal points resulting in a 2 point win for team 1
Zac/Justin keep surging – now only a handful of points out of 1st place. Zac vs Ken was ultra close with Ken squeaking out the net medal win by a stroke but losing his match points on the 9th hole. James picked up the first two holes but Justin nicked him by a stroke or two on the next 7 to post a decisive win.
Russ/Florencio posted a pair of net 28’s that the “Giant Killers” just couldn’t respond to.
Lenny held it together for six holes – winning the first hole, losing the fourth hole, and drawing even on holes 2 and 3 and matching Mike par for par on holes 5, 6, and 7 but Mike’s birdies on 8 and 9 topped Lenny’s par / bogie (net par) on the final 2. Substitute Marcel dropped the three of the first four holes decisively and going 2-0-3 for the last 5 couldn’t turn around the match.
Long time customer Cris Z stepped in for Ron Kutkiewicz who is still on the mend. He played Dan O’ straight up and took a 2 stroke win going 3-1-5. Kenny J. ran into a buzz saw as super sub Tim Maxim blasted a handicap busting 35 net 24 to give team 12 a runaway win.
First place Jamie/Chris drop a second match in a row – are they taking on water or do we just give credit its due – Mitch/Larry played solid team golf – net 29 and 32 respectively to take solid hold of 4th place with two matches left on the schedule.
Holes 7, 8, 9 proved decisive as the defending champs continue to march up the standings late in the season – all 4 played solid golf but Casey’s 35 net 24 made what was very much a close match into something that resembled a runaway

  1. Improving your lie is not cheating I’ts a local rule on every club I’ve every played on and I’ve played on some good ones.

    1. rule 13-2. A player cannot improve: his lie by changing the ball’s position; the area of his stance or swing; his line of play; the area where he is taking a drop or placing his ball. These actions are prohibited: pressing the ground with a club; moving, bending or breaking a fixed or growing object (e.g., a tree branch); altering the ground’s surface; moving or pressing down soil or repaired divots; sweeping away dew or other moisture.

It’s just that easy. Any course that allows lift, clean, and place all of the time is just “fluffing” your score… There are already rules of golf that allow relief from casual water and marked ground under repair so if you’re asking me (and you’re not) anybody that’s been milking strokes with year round winter rules is just kidding themselves. Just my opinion.
