Week 15 – league fatigue?

Hard to figure out just WHY SO MANY PLAYERS BAGGED LEAGUE this week… is our season just toooooo long? Has the fact that your team is out of the money flagging your enthusiasm? (keep in mind that teams are randomly selected at the dinner and awarded cash) So c’mon fellas… three matches to play and it just isn’t as much fun playing alone as in a foursome… Jonathan is downstate so Mike/Jonathan will play Zac/Justin on Monday… bowl-a-hole, indeed…

Besides… this Saturday is the 3rd iteration of the East Branch Short Course Team Championship! We’re going to have good eats… Texas BBQ (Brisket, Ribs) , jambalaya, beans, salad, etc. and so even if the golf isn’t up to network standards the chow will be! We’ll dine up on the decks and in the dining rooms of the new clubhouse and restaurant (even if my walk-in cooler isn’t cooling yet) to give you a preview of just how great a venue the All American BBQ promises to be… So please pony up your fees before Saturday so I make sure to buy enough beef to satisfy all comers… If you walk up on Saturday at 4PM you’ll be welcomed, but you will pony up an extra ten spot for the privledge. Please pay early so I have a better notion of portion.

OK onto the golf… Jamie told me he was feeling a bit weighed down and out of balance what with the big wad of cash he picked up with his big near pin and skin win (but he still managed to post a 35 net 28) and partner Chris beat up on ghost Average Barney with a scorching 34 net 24… might have even been round of the week except for renewed golfer Casey Sidorowicz who ran with a tip provided by Zac Golden and promptly hit a handicap busting 35 net 23 (only one stroke from best net round of the season)… Casey’s only flaw – a double par 6 on #6. And speaking of #6… Once again the near pin bug bit Ken Steinbuch whose effort to near a foot of a hole in one went for naught as he failed to pony up his fiver for a shot at gold… and not the first time this year, either. Instead, substitute extraordinaire Peter Barcia snatched near pin and $24 from Mitch Hull’s near 42′ tee shot with a shot to 22’3″ … just a bit wider than Ken’s. But don’t feel too bad for Mitch as he swept the skins during his handicap busting 30 net 24 with birdies on #5 and #7 and the only par on #4 … good for $36

SEE YOU SATURDAY AFTERNOON 4PM FOR SIGNUP & WARMUP

John/Yvan made quite a showing – and continued to shave strokes from their handicaps but lost a close match to Dan O’ / Peter mostly by dropping the 3 toughest holes on the course 22-2 … Dan O’ / Peter played the 3 toughies well… +2 combined while John/Yvan played them +13 …
Team 14 got steamrolled Monday morning by surging Zac/Justin who won 7 holes, lost 2 – Their match started on hole 4 and Mike / Jonathan kept it close, tied 16-16 on holes 4-7 but lost the next 5 holes and the match in rather convincing fashion… so is team 2 gunning for Jamie / Chris?
Ken/James took an early lead, but Mitch/Larry took holes 3,4, and 5 decisively then thwarted a comeback and essentially closed the match out on hole 7 to take a close win and to continue gaining ground in the standings – now in fifth place yet Ken/James effort keeps them in the money – for now
The “Giant Killers” took down Harry/Brian as they combined to shoot net par as Tony shot a 37 net 25 to spoil Harry’s fine 37 net 28 and Lou tied Brian’s net 33 with one of his own. Good golf all around.
In a “make or break” week for Lenny / Derek, Derek broke … down that is… with a flat tire on his way back home from a downstate meeting… argh. But there seems to be no stopping Jamie / Christopher who both continue to break net par week after week in spite of their handicaps falling precipitously.
Ron Kutkiewicz is still on the mend so Tim Maxim stepped into the breach. His decent net 33 didn’t hold up against Dustin’s net 31 and a revived Casey managed a season best 35 net 23 to dominate Kenny Joseph whose poor recent Tarzan imitation resulted in significant orthopedic and soft tissue distress which has not served his golf well at all… feel better soon Kenny!
Russ was no match for Average Arnie today… the 33 he shot on Sunday is now merely a fading memory… Hoping Skip/Bill can make their next 3 matches and the dinner… Russ’ partner Florencio had to take his wife to the baby doctor as she is due (hopefully after the annual dinner)
