Match 14 – crunch time?

We entered the final phase of our 2022 league season with conditions and a course setup that were… challenging. Perhaps vaguely reminiscent of British Open golf – with golf shots seemingly well short of their target rolling, and rolling, and rolling. And yet better than half of the field tallied within two shots of net par. Well done, fellas!

Not at all sure what you all will do next week as I’ll be setting the course up for the East Branch Short Course Championship (played late Saturday Afternoon 8/27) and the mantra for that tournament will be “Go Low or Go Home”… birdies-a-plenty should rule the day for match 15… we’ll see… Get yourself or your TEAM ready now!!!

Jamie Wilson / Christopher Stevens just keep on rolling… what with Jamie picking up the biggest cash win of the season with $90 in near pin money AND the only par in the field to tack on another $11.25 … playing with house money for the rest of 2022!

John/Yvon both seemed to be playing their best matches of the season when a slight derailment on #9 moved them into a dead on tie with Russ / Florencio… Russ went +6 over the last two holes to keep his handicap intact; Florencio scored 3 dreaded “others” after getting a late start and no warmup. Handy hint- we’re losing daylight fast – don’t tee off much later than 5:15 unless you carry glow-in-the-dark balls.
Justin/Zac played white hot golf (net 27 / 25 respectively) to vault into 2nd place at Lenny / Derek’s expense… the latter fall to 7th place but get their crack at Jamie/Chris next week…
Ken / James shot solid net 31’s but fall to 3rd place after their narrow win over Jamie / Chris … did they expose a crack in the first place team’s armor?
Lou busts net par (and gives back two handicap strokes) with a net 29; his partner Tony had no pars and only one birdie but still shot a solid net 30 to stay within a stroke of substitute Aarne Lofgren… all in all a good day for Tony / Lou and a rough day for team 6 while we all wait to hear how Ron’s doing at home after his surgery.
Holes 7 and 8 proved pivotal to Dustin / Casey’s win over DanO / Gary as the winners moved up into 5th place overall.
Skip / Bill both shot net 30’s and while Skip had no “dreaded others” Bill only had 1. Brian / Harry couldn’t keep that pace up and at the 4th hole, Skip / Bill took over the match – going 4-1-1 the rest of the way.
Mitch / Larry fall back a spot to 6th place after a closely fought 50-50 match with Mike / Jonathan. Still plenty of great golf left here in 2022!!!
