Match 12 – Extra Incentives

Why play on Wednesday? Well… the weather “discomfort index” might be even higher tomorrow… and besides that… there’s an extra $57 in this week’s SKINS pot!! That birdie putt (or sometimes maybe even a par putt) could result in a big win… last week’s birdies and pars got covered… there were 5 pars on #1 (in spite of that EVIL pin position!)…Skip, Chris (near pin win), and DanO covered #2, Mike, Mitch, Florencio, and sub Peter Barcia parred toughest par 3 #3… and a close call Mitch and Mike Lor covered #4 with pars… EZ pin #5 almost got Lenny or Larry Hull a skin, except they both parred it …. a birdie putt on holes 6, 7, or 8 would have awarded the whole pot to a lucky winner but nope – lots of pars. The second toughest hole, #9, was once again parred by only two… Mike and Mitch and so we have, for the first time, a $57 SKINS CARRYOVER… a birdie putt would have won the whole pot and might just do the same today… if you play. Only $8 if you missed playing last week… $5 for you regulars… GOOD LUCK!

OK So we ended up with… $105 in the skins pot… and the $28 in the closest to the pin (on hole #3 today) will be carried over until next week… no one hit and held the 3rd green… But we did have three skins winners… all on BIRDIES…

Seems like this week’s matches proved out just how competitive our league handicap system makes every one of our matches…

a big win for John / Yvan – both broke net par for the first time this season… maybe it was the morning heat and sunshine? First hole jitters kept the winning team from putting together a pair of Nick Malaxos Sandbagger of the year worthy rounds…
DanO/Gary played an outstanding (read “get ready to give back a handicap stroke”) matches both breaking net par – Zac never posted a dreaded “other” but 4 double bogies cost him, and the team, dearly
Ken vs Russ was a back and forth match much closer than the 18-8 score indicated… holes 5 and 8 proved decisive in tilting the match to team 11… a reminder: if you are late e.g. teeing off after 430 PM we need to reach out to our opponents AS SOON AS POSSIBLE…
The “Giant Killers” started off quick, winning 3 of the first 4 holes and took a 23-9 points lead but Mitch went +3 over the last 5 holes to pull away and Larry only dropped the 8th hole to Lou over the final 6 holes resulting in a resounding victory for team Hull.
Lenny/Derek played fine golf posting a combined +1 net but got knocked down a peg or two by both Skip (who shot a fine 42 net 31 to edge Lenny by a stroke) and leading Nick Malaxos Sandbagger of the Year candidate (why not just award it now) Bill Drew who in true Nick fashion mixed in a scorching 38 net 23 as opposed to his handicap boosting 50 from last week… Hot or Cold, which will he be next week?
Please give Ron your best wishes – he thought he “threw out his back” after his tee shot on 9 last week; turns out he was having a serious cardiac event… Get well soon, Ron!!! Aarne Lofgren stepped into the breach and while Dustin breathed a sigh of relief over getting 2 strokes versus giving 4… but Aarne stepped on the gas right from the get-go … he was +1 going into the 9th hole and ended up 2 under par Net… Dustin’s fine 38 net 30 only earned him 6 points… Casey didn’t fare much better as Kenny J shot a fine 43 net 30 resulting in an overwhelming 73-27 result.
1st place Jamie/Chris had a really competitive match with Mike/Jonathan … team 7 pulled ahead with an 8-0 win on the 3rd hole but lost the match on holes 4 and 5 dropping both holes by 7-1 margins… both teams either pushed 4-4 holes or alternated 7-1 wins/losses resulting in a 60-40 win for team 14…
