Match 9 Results – halftime!

Well we’ve passed the midway point of our 17 week season so while there’s plenty of golf left to play we have to admit that it’s all downhill from here to the conclusion of our 2022 season!

Bill Drew is continuing his campaign for the 2022 Nick Malaxos sandbagger of the year by once again hitting a week’s best 39 net 23 after pumping up his handicap to 16 with a couple of bad rounds… so that’s now two weekly best net rounds in 9 matches… hmmmm…sandbagger of the year indeed!

Skins / Near Pin only had 14 entrants as we had several absences this week… Multi-week winner Christopher Stevens won cash (again) on #7 with a shot to 12’8″ good for $28. His partner Jamie Wilson grabbed a skin with the only par on #3 and rejuvenated Mitch Hull grabbed a skin with a birdie on #5 each good for $21… oh and a note: “The Kid” – aka Ryan Sanford – managed to bust his right wrist in a fall and so Russ is looking for his third partner of the year… hey Tim Maxim – want to make the commitment? Don’t think you’ll end up like one of those “This is Spinal Tap” drummers…

Next week features a potentially dramatic match between front runners Jamie/Chris (can this be the year they finally hang on to win it all?) versus current 2nd place “we want to win it this year” team of Lenny/Derek… in 3rd place is the always competitive and now playing back up to form Mitch and Larry Hull.

Note there’s been a correction in the Standings Report… somehow Derek’s week 8 score was deleted from the database and reduced his points total by 21. I was able to recreate his hole by hole score from the week 8 player report and that corrected the reports / database… Apologies for any agita that this causes… and thank you for your careful examination of the reports and these blog posts!

Mitch and Larry move into third place with a big win though John and Yvan managed to halve 3 holes
Zac clobbered “Average Arnie” but there wasn’t a whole lot ace substitute Tim Maxim could do when Bill Drew fired off a scorching hot 39 net 23… with that kind of week he leads the polls for the 2022 Nick Malaxos Sandbagger of the Year trophy… Next week Bill (13) only gets one stroke from James Litaker (12)
Ken continues to shoot better than net par with a 36 net 27 and James shot a very respectable 43 net 31 as they roughed up Dustin/Casey taking all 28 match/medal points and only lost one hole in the match going 6win-1 lost-3tied as a team
Jamie/Chris hang onto first place for another week as Jamie edged Tony by a single stroke net and Christopher shot a fine 40 net 28… Lou kept it competitive in his match with Chris – over the last 6 holes Lou tied Chris net stroke for stroke but his slow start on holes 1, 2, 3 cost him…
Lenny/(sub)Peter Barcia did enough to win a competitive match (5win, 1loss, 3 tied) where they gave a lot of strokes and managed to hold onto second place…
Brian / Harry put the whoopass on Russ’ substitute Chris Vollmer and late sub Average Arnie (playing because Ryan “The Kid” Sanford broke his wrist and will be in a cast for the next 8 weeks)… Both Brian and Harry were sub par net earning a lotta’ points and made a move up in the standings to 7th place
Dan O’ / Gary played up to their potential in a really close match that’s hardly reflected in the point totals. Dan halved or won all 4 holes he was given a stroke and Gary just beat his man Jonathan straight up with a fine 38 net 26… The 74-26 final doesn’t tell the tale of just how close this match was.
