(keep in mind that we “lost” a week due to inclement weather so the match dates in your master schedule are a week “behind”)
One point to make… I’ve heard that some of you might consider the native patches of fescue that have sprouted about… around trees, the well head, at the edges of sandtraps “aren’t supposed to be there” and so you are deserving of free relief… I don’t think so. I rather enjoy the aesthetic – think Bethpage Black… so if you want relief… it ain’t free… it’s called “an unplayable lie” and you can play again from your previous spot, drop within two club lengths no closer to the hole, or drop anywhere on the imaginary line from the flagstick to your ball’s current position (and don’t forget to add that penalty stroke)… still have an issue? I’ll supply the weed wacker and the fuel, but I’d ask that you leave a bit of that fescue around… the stems and seedheads really do class up the joint, don’t you think?
Tony’s got a procedure Tuesday and would have missed the match he was most looking forward to this season but the rest of the foursome agreed to play Sunday morning so of course I went along. Tony played red hot Lenny tough… net 26 for both but the match only stayed close for 5 holes… Lenny/Derek took holes 6,7,8 outscoring Tony/Lou 22-2 – and that’s pretty much your margin of victory. So will Lenny/Derek still be in first place at week’s end? We’ll see how Jamie/Chris fare vs. Justin/Zach…
Except for the three thermonuclear explosions John played Dustin pretty tough for 6 holes going 2W-1L-3T before dropping the last three holes and their match. Yvan had one of his better matches this season, and Casey didn’t, a 4W-2L-3T overall win for Yvan… Yvan/John lost the match on the final three holes with the team points for that stretch going 21-3 for Dustin/Casey who eked out the win.
In a REALLY tight match Jamie/Christopher edged out Justin/Zach by just two points… really by Chris’ three net stroke medal win over Zach compared to Justin’s two stroke net medal win over Jamie earned Jamie/Chris the four “team” medal points and earned them another week in first place.
In the battle of the Kens… sudden “Nick Malaxos Sandbagger of the Year” nominee Kenny Joseph shot another fine round with three consecutive pars on the first three holes they played (4,5,6) and if not for the double digit score on #9 would have easily posted a net below par round (just like his partner Ron who posted his own season best 42 net 27)… However James had the answer for Ron’s fine play posting a season best 39 net 26 to offset Kenny J’s match and keep the final score closer than it might have been
Skip/Bill beat Harry/Brian via Medal points, as they won the net strokes team effort by a single stroke… and the team meal points by 12-4, hence the 8 point margin of victory
Mitch is back in form (and probably dropping handicap strokes) with a fine 34 net 27 for his third solid week in a row (and also near pin winner on #5). Larry won 3 and tied 2 holes that he got strokes on, and won 1, lost 2, and tied 1 of the holes he played Gary straight up on. Dan punched his ticket on the bogie train and couldn’t match Mitch’s 5 pars, hence the final result…
Lanny (Lenny) had an off match and failed to take advantage of perhaps Mike’s worst round of the season; while Russ’ double bogie infested round (3 gorfed chips from the fescue and 2 penalty strokes… is that justice, or what?) failed to keep up with Jonathan’s well played (except for the 1st hole) round where he posted a fine 42 net 30.
