Was it the hot and humid summery weather or perhaps it was the course setup – scoring was a bit “below par” this week as we race towards the end of our season. Nobody managed to post more than three pars in their round and there were more than a few “others” and “snowmen” posted.
Our top six teams continue to churn in the standings… Mitch and Larry Hull squeezed into first place by the narrowest of margins… two points … on the strength of taking 28 team points while James Litaker and Ken Steinbuch took 24.5 team points and fell to a close second place. Dustin / Casey held their spot – third place – despite their hard luck week losing to a resurgent Mike / Jonathan 69.5 – 20.5. Mitch / Larry started slow against Jamie / Chris losing the first three holes but won the final six holes on their way to the big 65 – 25 win that catapulted them into first place. James / Ken won the first four holes of their match against Zach / Justin and then promptly lost the next three. They played the last two holes even and won their match and stayed oh-so-close to first place with their 53 – 37 win.
Only TWO matches left…Next week’s schedule for the top 6: Larry and Mitch Hull face off against (league leading points getter Dustin) and Casey. Dustin gets two strokes; Larry and Casey play straight up. James / Ken play Mike / Jonathan. James gets SEVEN (??) strokes from Mike; Jonathan gives Ken one stroke. Christopher (first week playing “A”) / Jamie match up against Zach / Justin. Christopher gets three strokes from Zach; Jamie plays Justin straight up.
Closest to the pin / skins had only 14 players (half of you… really?) for a $70 pot … $28 near pin and $42 skins. Near pin on #6 goes to Tony Tanner (35′ 5″) who wins that $28 in spite of a three putt bogie to the lower tier pin position. For the second week in a row skins got divvied 4 ways ($10.50 each): Brian Wheaton parred the first hole; Mitch Hull had a tap in one foot birdie putt on #5; Larry Hull grabbed a skin with the only par on #6 (Thanks, Tony!) and welcome back to the winner’s circle Mike (Master of the Meadows) Lor who had the only birdie on the par 4 ninth hole.
