Another Wednesday, another prime time cloudburst. Fortunately the rain didn’t last long and all nine matches concluded with nary an umbrella showing. Not even an eighth of an inch of rain accumulated in the gauge so that British Open style ground game took precedence over the American “target golf” style we’ve all grown to love. Conditions were “firm and fast”…
Team Standings show Jamie Wilson / Christopher Stevens holding firm on first place after another outstanding points performance. Chris has to be in line for most improved golfer as his handicap is at the precipice of falling into single digits after another good (40 net 29) week… Jamie was right there with him shooting 37 net 30 to give team 11 a one-two punch that cast aside yet another opponent.
Another standings surprise is the churning competition for the money (1st thru 4th place)… Papa Chairvolotti (Mike) / Tim Maxim made a big move up the ladder into second place overtaking Thomas (the younger) / Dan Eignor who were pushed down into third place after substitute Chris Vollmer handed Thomas a 23-4 loss when he shot a 37 net 29 to Thomas‘ sub par (no pun intended) 34 net 33. Cody Rieder 40 net 38 / Owen Sanford 45 net 37 had an off week dropping into fourth place after a 52.5 – 37.5 loss to Skip Parcell 43 net 35 / Bill Drew 48 net 35
Next week low handicappers Mike Lor (1) / John Mulloy (5) get a crack at the league leaders and perhaps make a move into the money… Speaking of low handicappers… which team do you think has the second lowest total handicap? Would you believe it is our LAST PLACE team of Derrick Black (5) / Jonathan Crane (5). They’ve told me in no uncertain terms that (1) We’re the “Best Last Place Team Around” and (2) There’s no way that they will finish in last place… We’ll see how they stack up against Lenny Millen / Yvan (sand bagger of the year?) Luxama next week…
Speaking of Derrick Black … he managed to coax his tee shot on #7 to just inside 10 feet to win his first closest to the pin contest. With 20 players and $100 in the pot that nets Derrick $40. There were four skins awarded and Derrick missed his chance for the double win when he failed to convert his birdie putt… but Mike Lor (1st AND 4th) ($30), Daniel Eignor (6th) ($15), and Dan O’Neil (8th) ($15) sunk their birdie putts to take away some cash… Congratulations! Next week we’ll play into the 6th hole where more holes-in-one have been scored over the years than on any other hole at MGC!
